UFC 243

From 12pm

Saturday, October 05, 2019

The Octagon will make a historic return to Victoria on Sunday, October 6, with UFC243 WHITTAKER vs ADESANYA booked for Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. Australia’s first UFC champion, middleweight Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker, will defend his 185-pound belt against interim title holder, Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, in a five-round championship bout.

In becoming the UFC middleweight champion, Western Sydney local Whittaker (20-4) defeated Cuban powerhouse Yoel Romero twice – taking the win for the second time after breaking his hand in the first round. UFC243 will mark the first title defense on home soil for Whittaker , fondly known amongst fans as Bobby Knuckles. Across the ditch, Nigerian-born Auckland local and rising star Adesanya (17-0) remains undefeated. Having fought 6 times since his debut in February 2018, The Last Stylebender is not only one of the most active fighters in the division, but a fan favourite for his witty memes and anime-inspired performances.

With the Aussie champ back on the canvas following a fight-stopping injury earlier this year, the wait is finally over…the two gold strap owners will meet at the iconic Marvel Stadium on the October long weekend. “This is the perfect fight at the perfect time with the two best athletes in the division,” said UFC President Dana White. “I am pumped to go back to Melbourne for this massive event. To have two champions in Whittaker and Adesanya fighting for the title on home turf is huge. This will be the biggest fight in Australian history.”

With clout of its own, Marvel Stadium holds the record for the largest MMA event in UFC history, with 56,214 in attendance at UFC193: ROUSEY vs. HOLM on November 15, 2015, featuring female pioneer and UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey. The heart-stopping main event that knocked Rousey from her reign was THE biggest sporting event of 2015, and nearly four years later, the unmissable UFC243: WHITTAKER vs. ADESANYA will be hot on its heels.

Marvel Stadium CEO, Michael Green said, “We are delighted to host UFC243 at Marvel Stadium. To host an international sporting event of this calibre is a great testament to the diversity and versatility of the stadium.”

Timmo & Simmo

From 4pm

Saturday, October 12, 2019

Timmo made it to battle rounds on the latest round of The Voice, far from being an overnight success, Tim has been performing around south coast venues for several years, honing his skills not only as a singer, but also as an entertainer, connecting with his audience, and setting an easy, laid back vibe.

After leaving The Voice stage Tim wanted to branch out from his solo act, and decided to form a duo with an old friend , Brett Simpson, or “SIMMO” as he is known, together they put together a song list consisting of current top 40 and classics,

While Tim has the vocals sorted he is also an accomplished guitar and bass player, and alternates between them with ease , Simmo provides the backing with acoustic guitar, stomp box for bass drum and vocal harmonies, also loop pedal to keep the rhythm during guitar solos, together they create a full warm sound.

Joe Mungoven

From 4pm

Saturday, October 26, 2019

At the age of nine, a young Joe Mungovan would never have imagined that begging his parents “for a drum kit for Christmas” would pave his way into some of the most prestigious stages in Australia. The now singer/songwriter, crashed his skateboard at the age of 13, leaving him unable to play his drumkit and in a wheelchair for 4 months. Joe taught himself guitar and unconsciously developed a style that blends indie folk and pop together to produce his unique style - drawing influence from the likes of Justin Vernon, James Blake and Feist. With attention to articulate lyrics, catchy melodies and rhythmic detail, Joe’s songs express his genuine emotion. His authenticity and passion is conveyed in his intimate live show, and is an experience not worth missing. ‘Be With You’ is the second release for Mungovan in 2019. He spent the first half of the year touring Europe in support of his latest single ‘Lost Myself’. The single gained attention with plays on both Triple J and Triple J Unearthed along with many other stations.

Psycho Zydeco

From 4pm

Saturday, November 09, 2019

Sydney based Psycho Zydeco, or the Psychos as their fans affectionately dub them, have been one of the most successful Australian roots based bands for over 25 years now. With numerous tours, festivals and gigs throughout Australia and Europe, as well as four critically acclaimed albums, the band is enjoying performing live now more than ever. The band has taken the stage with Zydeco legends Rockin’ Dopsie and Terrance Simien in the past. Both of these giants of the deep south have praised the band for capturing a true Zydeco sound that has an Australian kick and flavour. This is something that we are very proud of. The band’s earthy blend of traditional Cajun, Blues and Swamp music produce a sound that is Psycho Zydeco. Driving washboard, drums, guitar, sax and the odd industrial sized triangle, combine with some amazing accordion playing that will make you feel so good you will want to grab a washboard and get up on stage and start scraping with the boys.

Marshall Okell Band

From 4pm

Saturday, November 16, 2019

Having worked his way through no less than five tour vans, an unwavering dedication to the stage and what can only be described as some time 'off the rails', Marshall boasts a live crowd-following that puts most working musicians to shame. He has played alongside the likes of John Butler, Ben Harper, Wolfmother, Buddy Guy, The Cat Empire, Jeff Lang, Gomez and Xavier Rudd.
Annual trips to the snow have seen him playing gigs up to seven nights a week for more than three months on end. His period of grieving in the years following 'Birdy' stripped him back to basics and injected a hefty dose of re-ality to his song-writing and musical heart and soul.
Arriving in 2015, his development as a musician is starkly evident in his fourth, yet to be titled album. With years of playing now under his belt, Marshall has made a notable return to the music of his youth, combining his love for legendary Soul and Blues singers like Little Feat, The Allman Brothers, Hat Fitz, Mavis Staples and Muddy Waters, with his undisguisable Hendrix, 70's Woodstock sound. The result is a deep, raw, honest, dirty blues sound that grabs you by the throat and then sooths you with a sweet honey tasting musical medicine. There are pure guts, sweat and emotion in his latest material that leave you exhausted and elated in their wake.
For those loyal followers that have watched him play over the years, the new album heralds a more honest interpretation of who this man is on the stage. His guttural energy needed capturing and canning in record form and his latest album has done that and more besides.
As with his previous recordings, Marshall enlisted the help of fellow musicians and friends 'The Hussy Hicks' Leesa Gentz and Julz Parker, as well as band members Nicolas Lemits, Ben Cox and Tracy Stephens in the making of the new album. He describes his time in the studio with his company as a period of “Great, soulful, natural expression with no protection and a great team to throw ideas around.” Some of the material has been 10yrs in the making, with additional song-writing input from his university friend and creative writing influence Matty Cummins. There's a distinct evolution in his writing style and the obvious passion for his life, loves and ongoing social commentary is there for all to hear.
Be warned. Marshall has emerged with a new level of addictive,
heart and mind altering musical energy. This guy doesn't just make heart and mind altering musical energy. This guy doesn't just make music. He's a roaring powerhouse of a man, and this album will get under your skin, into your blood and course through you like a visceral super-high of the likes you won't come down from easily.
